Egypt administered virginity tests to female demonstrators

An Egyptian general - who of course wishes to remain anonymous - has admitted that the Egyptian army administered involuntary virginity tests to women arrested at a demonstration in March. And he's trying to justify it.
In the weeks following the 9 March protest, Amnesty International published a report that alleged women had been beaten, given electric shocks, strip-searched, threatened with prostitution charges and forced to submit to virginity checks.

Despite previous denials that such events had taken place, a senior general has now admitted that ‘virginity tests’ were conducted – and also defended the practice – to CNN (Hat Tip: Memeorandum).

“The girls who were detained were not like your daughter or mine,” the general said. “These were girls who had camped out in tents with male protesters in Tahrir Square, and we found in the tents Molotov cocktails and (drugs),” he said.

“We didn’t want them to say (the military) had sexually assaulted or raped them, so we wanted to prove that they weren’t virgins in the first place,” the general continued. “None of them were (virgins).”
Enough stereotypes there for you about bad girls asking for it?

In the 63 years of the State of Israel's existence there has not been a single proven case of rape committed by an IDF soldier against an enemy non-combatant.

'Nuff said.

Read the whole thing.

This is just a form of intimidation, nothing else.

Virginity tests don't prove anything. You can have the hymen broken already without having sex, if you're active by doing excercies like bicycle riding, and doctors say even masturbating can cause the hymen to be broken,

an on the other hand, you can be sexually active without breaking the hymen, and even if going that far, you can have an operation called an Hymenorrhaphy to make yourself a virgin again, it's a new form of surgery which itself is nothing short of a deception.

and how was the virginity test done anyway? They probably already had decided what the results would be, even though the protesters may have been virgins.

if it's by inserting any medical equipment then that in itself may break it thus defeating the purpose. It's riduculous.

What about alleged cases?

Is there a single proven case of a rape comitted by an Egyptian army officer? Or are those only alleged ones too?

It's worrying..where Egypt is headed, hopefully things will settle down after these protests.

If "religion of rape", means Islam is the religion of rape I want to know Why havn't I been raped then?

Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

The scholars are unanimously agreed that the rapist is to be subjected to the hadd punishment if there is clear evidence against him that he deserves the hadd punishment, or if he admits to that. Otherwise, he is to be punished (i.e., if there is no proof that the hadd punishment for zina may be carried out against him because he does not confess, and there are not four witnesses, then the judge may punish him and stipulate a punishment that will deter him and others like him). There is no punishment for the woman if it is true that he forced her and overpowered her, which may be proven by her screaming and shouting for help.
Al-Istidhkaar, 7/146

A woman who is raped is innocent.

The Prophet said: "Allah has forgiven for my Ummah (Muslims) for their mistakes, what they forget and what they are forced to do."

Still awaiting proof, that the IDF is unique in not having raped enemy combatents as the article above infers.

Where is the proof that Egyptian army officers have been convicted for rape?

Why is this report tagged "Religion of Rape" when the Egyptian military declared the death sentence as a possible punishment for rape????

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces said Friday (April 1st) that the death penalty could apply to rapists whose victims are minors or in other special circumstances, Al-Masry al-Youm reported.

Attempted or even threats of rape will result in an automatic seven-year sentence if the victim is under 18. Offenders convicted of "incitement to debauchery" will serve at least three months in prison, with a repeat offense resulting in a one-year sentence.

The military has also issued new guidelines for those convicted of harassing women, whether in public, on the phone or online, with a prison term of six months to two years and a fine.
